Idaho Updates Semi-Truck Speed Limits

Attention Idaho drivers: major changes are coming to our interstates. 🚦

Heads up, drivers! The Idaho Transportation Department is swapping out speed limit signs for semi-trucks on interstates. A new law is taking effect to align speeds, so keep an eye out for the new signs next time you hit the freeway. 🚛

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is officially preparing to swap out speed limit signs for semi-trucks across the state’s freeway system.

This transition follows the passage of a new state law designed to align the speed limits of commercial semi-trucks with the flow of passenger traffic. By moving away from split speed limits—where passenger vehicles and heavy trucks are restricted to different speeds—lawmakers and transportation officials aim to improve traffic flow, reduce hazardous passing situations, and enhance overall road safety on Idaho’s busiest corridors.

Drivers are urged to stay alert, avoid distractions, and pay close attention to the new signage as road crews work to update the routes.
