Major traffic delays are expected to intensify this week on Interstate 95 after a truck fire caused a portion of the highway to collapse in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday morning June 11th.

At approximately 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, the incident unfolded as a commercial truck transporting a “petroleum-based product” caught fire beneath the I-95 off-ramp in Northeast Philadelphia, near the Cottman Avenue exit.

By just before 7 a.m., onlookers observed smoke and flames emanating from the burning truck in the vicinity of the Cottman Avenue off-ramp to I-95.

The intensity of the fire led to a section of the I-95 off-ramp collapsing, resulting in the closure of the highway in both directions between the Woodhaven and Aramingo exits.
